Will you scrap NAFTA or fix it? Answers courtesy of the AFL-CIO Democratic presidential candidate debate
August 08, 2007
Trade is coming up again and again and will be a crucial issue in the 2008 election.
From last night's AFL-CIO Democratic presidential debate:
What do you think of the answers? Post away!

Clinton, your smile is an eyesore. Obama, it's not all about taxes when it comes to trade. NAFTA was a mistake and no amount of fixing is going to make it good policy for our country or any other...disappointing that Kucinich is the only one willing to put that on the table.

Richardson: Good he mentioned getting union-busters out of the DOL, otherwise a predictable reform-oriented answer.
Obama: Good he said working people deserve a seat at the table, not just corporate interests.
Biden: Blames the leaders of Mexico and Canada, which misses the point.
Dodd: Says things about as revolutionary as Kuchy, minus the passion.
Edwards: He's so dreamy... I mean, what he says is great, but he used the question as an opportunity to byotch slap Clinton.
Kucinich: He proves his usefulness in the debates here. Holding the other candidates feet to the fire.
Clinton: I want a united democratic party...behind me! No mention of her husband's responsibility to NAFTA.
Olberman: Jokes about applause instead of asking Clinton to distance herself from husband Bill

Kucinch won the debate hands down. He is the only candidate who said he'll scrap NAFTA and the WTO. There is no reason to believe anyone other than Kucinich (and Gravel, but he wasn't there) will make a significannt difference to our trade policies.
